Game description

About Vermifuge

Imagine a basket full of juicy tomatoes. But wait, oh no! Some of them are starting to rot. If you don’t figure out what’s causing the rot and take action, it will spread to all the other tomatoes, and soon you’ll have nothing, but mush left.

Like the tomatoes in this game, our teams are full of different people, ideas, and working styles. Some things are going well, but others might be facing challenges. This game is a fun and safe way to start a conversation about things that matter to your team and work together to find solutions.

Game Objectives

Vermifuge is for teams that have been set up recently or teams that work together regularly. Use this game when you need to:

  • Define group norms: Define norms, rules, and procedures in an inclusive, playful, and safe space.
  • Brainstorm work rules: Define how the team would like to handle team issues and situations.
  • Build trust and openness: Create a foundation where everyone feels comfortable sharing their authentic voice.
  • Embrace group diversity: Give a voice to diverse perspectives and embrace divergent thinking.
  • Develop empathy & understanding: Learn to see things through different lenses, fostering a supportive environment.
  • Tackle challenges together: Equip your team with the tools to solve problems and find innovative solutions collaboratively.

Two Modes

Vermifuge offers an easy and a hard mode:

  • In the easy mode, place 6 rotten tomatoes on the deck before shuffling it and creating the 6 x 6 grid.
  • In the hard mode, place 8 rotten tomatoes and remove 2 fresh tomatoes from the deck before shuffling the deck and creating the 6 x 6 grid.

Contextualize the Game

Make it your own. The game can be contextualized to a team’s unique challenges. Players can identify shared challenges and sources of conflict that affect everyone in the team. These challenges can then be written on the empty Challenge cards.

The contextualized challenges can be mixed with the pre-printed challenges before a game starts. Pre-printed challenges that may not be relevant to the team can be removed from the deck before the start of a game.
