About This Course

From telling the story of a brand, sharing a success story with data and numbers, or sharing an intensely personal account, everyone has a story to tell. However, not everyone knows how to tell a story well. This workshop will equip you with the proven tools and techniques to tell your story in a way that is sure to influence your listeners.

Storycrafters is an intense hands-on workshop where you will pick a story that you would like to tell, define your characters, structure your story, define your plot, and then use techniques to bring your story to life in front of a live audience.

The Thread Presentation

All participants will be required to select a topic from their area of work and prepare a 5-minute presentation on the topic. This presentation will be called the Thread Presentation. The Thread Presentation will be used across all three parts of the workshop – Pre, During, and Post-workshop. Participants will be required to create the Thread Presentation before the pre-workshop evaluation phase.
Note: This is an intensive, mastery-oriented workshop. Participants should be ready to complete all pre-workshop and post-workshop activities and evaluations to benefit from this program.

Learning Journey

The workshop will be divided into three parts:

  • Pre-workshop: Up to 1 hours to prepare and present the Thread Presentation
  • Live Synchronous Workshop: 4 hours
  • Post-workshop: Up to 1 hours including a 10-minute one-on-one presentation

Skill Drill 1: The Power of Stories and Storytellers (1 hour)

Stories are one of the most powerful forms of communication. In this skill drill, participants will explore the power of stories and storytelling. And will explore how stories work on both, emotions and logic.
Participants will discover storytelling through the ages– from folktales to brand tales, and stories of valor to sales stories. Most particularly, we will explore stories and storytelling in the workplace – stories to motivate, inspire, bring change, and influence.

Skill Drill 2: Thinking of Your Presentation as a Story (2 hours)

In this skill drill, participants will explore the key story archetypes including:

  • The Hero’s Journey
  • Overcoming the Monster
  • Rags to Riches
  • The Quest
  • Voyage and Return
  • Comedy
  • Tragedy
  • Rebirth

Participants will explore examples of each type of story and discover how they can be used for business storytelling. Finally, participants will pick a story that they want to tell, decide its overall flow, break the story down to individual scenes, and prepare their stories for telling.

Skill Drill 3: Tell Your Story with Impact and Authenticity (1 hour)

In this session, we will explore the art of telling great stories. We will explore techniques of using your voice, expression, and movement to tell impactful stories.
